Ruidoso River Museum — Mining & Geology

MINING, GEOLOGY AND GEMSTONES

Some of the more interesting and intriguing things to gaze upon at the Ruidoso River Museum include a collection of stunning gemstones. Have you ever seen a Turquoise Nugget larger than a football? The Museum offers an amazing display of this beautiful natural blue stone indigenous to the American Southwest and other parts of the world. Used as a regular feature in Native American jewelry, you’ll find a wide range of nuggets from small to boulder size in their natural states.

The Museum also offers Gold crystals and nuggets as well as mining relics from around the US including the famous Hearst Gold Mine located in Pinos Altos, New Mexico.

So come by and ogle these odd and beautiful and most valuable stones and maybe secretly wish they were yours. There is a veritable King’s Ransom of these precious elements located at the Museum. And remember to bring your camera … your friends won’t believe the size of some of those Turquoise Boulders!
